  1. But the problem was never with the rate of turnover for those dreaded gears, but rather the unstoppable reckoning that they heralded. You see, once they began to rotate, that interlocking process could not be stopped or reasoned with. The coming wave of change was a slow-moving, interminable force of latent chaos, producing in its wake nothing if not confusion and the often-violent confrontations of desperate individuals scrambling to carve out an enclave of relevance in the unfeeling, endless bureaucracy that will never acquiesce to their cries for mercy.

  2. Clocking Out

    It was slow going
at the factory today. No one
    wanted to do much of
    anything it was
Thatsenburger a.k.a. The Machine who wanted speed
and accuracy. But not today. It was
    Incessant those gears, their speed,
    Slow. I know-
    a dull day, a boring
day- what can I tell you? The gears turned slowly and Franz thought he
    would go insane. They don’t
    ask-they just
    keep turning. As if
    they knew
    the end.
