  1. Am I? I ask myself this on a near-daily basis, and honestly, I cannot decide whether or not this is healthy, helpful or effective. Obviously, one must know who they want to be in order to then assess if you are who you want to be. If you find that you are not—which I do not imagine is the conclusion most draw—who you want to be, theoretically, you change, morph toward the person you want to be. The reality, however, points to the behavior that reveals that we do not change; we do not accept; we delude. And so, I confidently state for you now, that I am who I want to be.

  2. All the little people went about completing their tasks just as they ought to have been doing. When snags arose, as they inevitably would from time to time, they would be sure to consult their understanding of the rules before deciding which course of action was best in order to abide by said instructions and ensure no unnecessary deviation from consensual norms. If any particular individual were ever singled out in public, both subjects of “the spotlit” and “the spotlighter” would become the focus of an inordinate degree of external scrutiny and shame, and summarily be either repressed back into a state of compliance, or expelled and shunned from the system entirely. It all seemed, as it always had, that the choice of becoming who they wanted to be was always in their hands.
